  1. 1. Lateralized behavior in white-handed gibbons (Hylobates lar)

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Biologi

    Författare :Kiki Spoelstra; [2021]
    Nyckelord :lateralized behavior; limb side preference; Hylobates lar; white-handed gibbons; nonhuman primates;

    Sammanfattning : The evolutionary origins of human handedness are not yet fully understood as evidence of lateralized behavior in nonhuman primates is inconclusive. In the present study, lateralized behavior in both spontaneously occurring motor patterns and a tube task was examined in 15 white-handed gibbons (Hylobates lar). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gustatory responsiveness of West African Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) to seven substances tasting sweet to humans

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Författare :Desirée Sjöström; [2017]
    Nyckelord :chimpanzees; fructose; lactose; glucose; maltose; rebaudioside A; stevioside; sucrose; taste preference threshol;

    Sammanfattning : Comparative studies of taste perception have found that primates may differ markedly in their sensitivity for substances perceived as sweet by humans. These findings raise questions about the reason that may underlie these differences in sweet-taste sensitivity between species. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Assessment of lateralized behaviour in free-ranging Mexican mantled howler monkeys (Alouatta palliata mexicana)

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Biologi

    Författare :Laia Crespo Mingueza; [2015]
    Nyckelord :lateralized behaviour; limb side preference; mantled howler monkeys; motor patterns; non-human primates.;

    Sammanfattning : The evolutionary origins of human handedness are still unknown. The study of lateralized behaviour in our closest relatives, the nonhuman primates, is useful to clarify how this trait appeared and evolved in our species. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Development and application of an olfactory discrimination paradigm for Asian elephants (Elephas maximus)

    Master-uppsats, Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Författare :Josefin Arvidsson; [2011]
    Nyckelord :Asian elephant; Behavioral testing; Elephas maximus; Odor learning; Olfactory discrimination; Olfactory memory;

    Sammanfattning : The sense of smell plays an important role in regulating the behavior of Asian elephants but until now, no behavioral test to systematically assess the olfactory capabilities of this species existed. Using a voluntary, food-rewarded two-alternative operant conditioning procedure, three female Asian elephants were successfully taught to discriminate between rewarded and unrewarded odors and also succeeded in intramodal stimulus transfer tasks in which either the rewarded odor, or the unrewarded odor, or both odors were exchanged simultaneously for new odors.
