What does social activities has for importance in retirees lives and how does it affects the emotional energy? To get an answer to this, a qualitative study was conducted with semi-structured interviews. Six elderly and retired persons between 60-80 years participated in the interviews. The theoretical starting point in the study was Randall Collins theory about emotional energy and Aaron Antonovskys theory about KASAM , a feeling of context for the human being. These theories was used for forming the interview guide and also for the analysis of result of the study. The result of the study also shows that some of the interviewees had an complex experience of retirement. With feelings of freedom but also loss of something of importance and meaning. The experience of the transition is linked due to how the individual left the working life. Further on the result shows that interaction rituals that generates emotional energy was individual experiences for the interviewees and successful interaction rituals follows further on into retirement.  Unsuccessful interaction rituals was something that the interviewees tried to avoid. More results from the study shows that the retirement can be a relief from unsuccessful interaction rituals that generates low emotional energy and has occurred on the interviewees old workplace. The summary of the result shows that the retirement implies a breaking point where the activities may take a bigger place in the interviewees lives.  The main theme that appears from the interviews is the feeling of freedom and relief of being retired. The majority of the interviewees lived a active life with social interests and individual interests.
