Sammanfattning: When a consumer buys a horse for several hundred thousand swedish crowns the purchase is covered by the samt law as when the consumer buys a toaster for a few hundred swedish crowns. The swedish consumer legislation aims to strengthen the consumer's status and achieve a more equal relationship between the parties to the purchase. The regulation covers all types of goods, regardless of material, price, size, area of use and more. Horses are a living animal under a naturally constant change. An animal cannot be compared with a product made of plastic. The horse industry in Sweden is important. It contributes to many jobs and above all to wellbeing and recreation for many people. The equestrian sport is the most popular sport for youths after football. Some have a horse for hobby and daily exercise while others have their horses as a job and compete at the elite level. Because the horse industry is so large in Sweden, many people are affected by the legislation. Within the EU, a new directive has been drawn up in the field of consumer law which is to be implemented in Swedish law. A commission has been appointed that has called out a proposal for a new Consumer Sales Act that will implement the directive and be better adapted for the purchase of living animals. The work is currently ongoing and within six months a new Consumer Sales Act will enter into force.
