STÖDET FÖR SVERIGEDEMOKRATERNA BLAND UNGA MÄN – EN GENUSPOLITISK REAKTION? En kvantitativ studie av vad genuspolitiska attityder har för effekt på stödet för Sverigedemokraterna år 2019

Sammanfattning: This study aims to explore the relationship between gender political attitudes and expressed support for populist radical right parties (PRRP) in the context of Sweden. PRRPs have traditionally been linked to conservative gender values. Previous researchers have also examined the relationship between age, gender and support for PRRP - the parties are most often supported by older men. However, PRRPs are becoming increasingly popular among young men under 30, and new studies have shown that these young men are the most negative group when it comes to increasing gender equality. Using survey data from the 2019 SOM-survey, I conduct a regression analysis over four different models, to check the effects of both attitudes towards immigration and gender equality on expressed support for the Sweden Democrats. The study's findings reveal that attitudes towards immigration significantly impact support for the Sweden Democrats, irrespective of gender or age. Moreover, the results underscore the clear influence of an individual's gender political attitudes on the level of support for the Sweden Democrats, regardless of gender and age - individuals with a negative attitude towards an increase in power redistribution between genders exhibited an increased expressed support for the Sweden Democrats. The impact of these gender political attitudes was most pronounced among the younger demographic, aged 16-29, for both genders. Of particular surprise, based on prior research, was the robust effect observed among the group of women aged 16-29.
