Sammanfattning: This study aims to contribute knowledge and understanding regarding the role of political governance in facilitating grassroots initiatives that hold potential for advancing sustainable development. Specifically, the research investigates the potential role of Blue/marine community gardens in the transition towards sustainable societies and food production. This holds significant importance as global oceans are of utmost concern in both national and international contexts, encompassing current climate challenges and the inherent potential of sustainable ocean utilization. Consequently, there is a compelling need for research on how sustainability initiatives within the blue sector are influenced by and influence various transition processes. Drawing upon transition theories, including the Multi-Level Perspective and Socio Technical Transitions, this study utilizes a theoretical framework for analysis. Empirical data collection involved qualitative semi-structured interviews with representatives from diverse governmental bodies and municipalities. Thematic analysis was employed to examine the data, leading to the identification of key themes through coding. The results highlight that stakeholders recognize substantial potential for Blue community gardens to be a driving force in long-term transitions, primarily contributing values of ocean awareness, knowledge, engagement, and community. Concerning the further establishment of blue community gardens, various themes emerge, each containing sustainability dynamics and presenting distinct opportunities, challenges, and barriers from the stakeholders' perspectives.
