Sammanfattning: This research examines how stereotypes, heteronormativity och homonormativity are reproduced in documents used by the Swedish Migration Agency in the LGBT+ asylum process. The material consists of two supporting documents that are used in order to determine the sufficiency and credibility of each individual asylum case. Using a qualitative approach, the study analyzes these two documents through Altheides and Schneiders qualitative content analysis. The findings reveal that both documents reproduce and reject stereotypes simultaneously. These stereotypes are based on western ideals, which impede LGBT+ asylum seekers from conforming to them and consequently hinder being perceived as ‘desired’ and ‘wanted’. The fact that the documents exist and are still used adamantly, perpetuates the heteronormative ideal and contributes to the creation of an ‘us versus them’ divide. The reproduction of stereotypes, heteronormativity and homonormativity adds to the process that reinforces the deportability and illegality of LGBT+ migrants. This research contributes to understanding the underlying critical aspects of these official documents.
