Hur hållbar är serogrisproduktion?

Detta är en L3-uppsats från SLU/Dept. of Rural Buildings and Animal Husbandry [LBT]

Sammanfattning: Raising pigs in absence of a number of certain diseases is called Seroproduction in Sweden. Internationally it's called SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) – Production. It results in higher growth, lower feed consumption, and lower medicine consumption. The pigs are produced under the same concept, but the rules vary a bit between countries. We wanted to look closer into that, so we studied the Danish and Swedish rules, to find differences between the systems. In Denmark they have different kinds of health levels which means that a herd can be connected to the SPF – system, even if it gets infected by a disease. This is not possible in Sweden. We have interviewed Swedish pig producers to find which elements affect the Serostatus positively or negatively. The purpose of this work was that we wanted to get the producers to become more observant on which elements that are the most determinant and what you have to work with in the herd. We contacted 22 pig producers, that are active seroproducers or that have been active before. The herds were spread all over Sweden. They had to answer a questionnaire study. The questions concerned which factors are important to be successful, and which factors made the herd loose the status. The results showed that strict routines are very important to be successful, both inside and outside the herd, for example transports. The time that the herds have/had the serostatus varied from 8 month to 20 years. We were happy to see that all producers were positive to seroproduction, even those that lost their status. If you are going to build a new pig stable, you have nothing to loose to start as a seroproducer. There are more pig producers connected to the SPF – system in Denmark than in Sweden, as a percentage. It may depend on the different health levels. If Sweden would have the same levels, maybe it would attract more producers to join the serosystem.
