Sammanfattning: 3D-modelling in AutoCAD This thesis is done in cooperation with LB-Hus in Bromölla, and have aimed to establish a digital AutoCAD model of one of the company’s house types and to find out what opportunities there are to do visualisations in the form of images directly from the programme. Modeling has been carried out so that the very construction of the house is included. Interiors and installations, with the exception of the ventilation system, have been left out in the model. The model has been created with solid models after a comparative study made between solid models and surface models to find out which option in this case was the easiest to handle and took up the least space. We have been trying to keep the detailing level in the model as close to reality as possible, yet we had to reduce the level of detailing on doors and windows, since the files turned out very large and hard to manage at full detail. The model is built of blocks, since it takes less space than a model consisting of 3D solids. Each part of the building is its own block, which means that the model is very easy to update because all of the components that are exactly the same is updated automatically if you change one of them. Working with blocks have also generated a smooth hierarchical layer structure where you can switch on or off either a bulding part of the wall or directly the entire wall. We have also exported the house model to dwf format which makes it possible to open it in Autodesk Design Review, an easy-to-use software for display of models, into which the layers are accompanying, but in which, unlike AutoCAD, the layers can be switched on and off for individual components. We have also reviewd how to render images in AutoCAD and come to the conclusion that things are going smooth as long as you stick to average quality. However, it may take a long time to render and it may be difficult to get satisfactory realistic images, particularly when it comes to window panes and the surroundings.
