Sammanfattning: Author: Jessica Gedda and Felicia Sörensen Title: It was worth it, we got a child in the end – Adoptive parents’ experience of being under investigation for adoption [translated title] Supervisor: Anna Angelin Assessor: Hans-Edvard Roos The aim of this study was to examine how adoptive parents’ experience to be under investigation for adoption at the social services. Furthermore the ambition was to find out whether the adoption investigation was seen as an intrusive and unpleasant experience or as a natural part of becoming an adoptive parent. To best achieve the purpose of our essay we chose to use a qualitative approach and within that area we decided that the best option for the aim of our study was semi-structured interviews. The report is based on six interviews with adoptive parents who all live together, and have adopted together, with a heterosexual partner. They have all passed and finished the adoption investigation and are since 2-11 years back parents to an adoptive child. Our analysis is made on the basis of Erving Goffmans’ dramaturgical theory and Albert Hirschmans’ theory about exit and voice. The most important result of the study is that all of the respondents agreed about the fact that the adoption investigation at times was hard but in the end were worth the time and the effort. The reason for these opinions is that the adoptive parents see the purpose of the adoption investigation as something obvious and it therefore cannot be questioned.
