Research question: Can motherhood generate motivational factors that positively affect a mother’s choice to become an entrepreneur? If so, what can characterize them and how can they function? Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to examine how mothers get positively affected by their children and how this can result in entrepreneurial activities. Methodology: This thesis is a qualitative research based on semi structured interviews with 10 mother entrepreneurs with a purpose of answering the research question. Theoretical perspective: The theoretical framework created in this thesis is based on two different theories used to describe entrepreneurship activities and motivational factors. Result: Four motivational factors related to motherhood were identified and could be linked to the mother’s decision to create a business. Conclusions: Motherhood is a generating motivational factor that positively affects a mother’s choice to become an entrepreneur, and can function as both push and pull factors.
