Self-directed learning in international collaborative nursing students : A questionnaire study

Sammanfattning: Background: With the development and progress of social life, clinical practice and disease demand, nurses are required to have self-directed learning ability to adapt to changes. Self-directed learning helps nursing students enhance self-confidence and practical ability, and finally attain the goal of providing a perfect nurse to patients. However, Chinese education lacks attention to the cultivation of nursing students' self-directed learning.Aim: The study aimed to evaluate self-directed learning among students in an international collaborative nursing program.Methods: A total of 235 nursing students in international collaborative nursing program completed in the questionnaire survey. The Self-Directed Learning Instrument (SDLI ) and the demographic questionnaire were used. The data was analyzed by SPSS 26.0.Result: The total score of the questionnaire was 20-100, and in our study, the maximum score was 100, the minimum score was 20. It was shown that nursing students in international collaborative nursing programs showed good self-directed ability in their lives. And year 1 performed best among three years.Conclusion: Study showed that nursing students in international collaborative programs performed well in self-directed learning. Besides, different years show differences in their self-directed learning studies.Keywords: Self-directed learning (SDL), nursing students, international collaborative program
