Sammanfattning: The aim of this paper is to discuss and analyze three cases of local parties, often referred to as independent local lists, in Sweden. More specifically the case study consists of three cases of urban local parties which can be described as local parties in municipalities with a bigger than average population. The study contributes to the research by exclusively focusing on urban local parties which has not been done in previous studies. To increase the understanding for urban local parties an analysis is made using theories on why local parties form in the first place, as well as a descriptive analysis based on common traits identified in the previous literature. In my analysis Erlingssons actor-oriented theory where parties are formed due to neglected political demands seems to explain efficiently why urban local parties may have been formed. In the descriptive analysis the previous literature predicted some of the traits found in the local parties, such as identifying as neither left nor right. However the urban local parties seem to have other characteristics that have not been discussed previously, such as their view on the politicians role in municipal politics.
