Sammanfattning: This essay analyses the use of history in the video game Assassin's Creed 2. How have the developers used history in their game? The paper also analyses how the game can stimulate, arouse and mobilize the historical consciousness of the player. The essay presents a theoretical analysis of the uses of history and historical consciousness. This analysis is then linked with the results. In the result I present how the game uses history. Here I show that the developers have used history in a smart way in the game. This applies particularly to the database that the player can interact with and where the player can find information on key characters with whom the player interacts with within the game. The information in the database can create interest and cause the player to become interested in learning more about a historical figure and search for information not present in the game. This also leads to the fact that the player's historical consciousness gets stimulated and further develops. Of course the degree of this stimulation varies from player to player depending on how much you read in the database. Pros and cons of the developers use of history is discussed in the discussion where I also conclude that Assassin's Creed 2 uses history in an interesting way and that Assassin’s Creed 2 is part of a great variety of games and movies that can help to make people more aware of history.
