Sammanfattning: The concept of “right to repair” has increasingly gained attention during the last few years. What originally started as a movement by consumers frustrated by their inability to repair the products they own, has now evolved politically and led to different types of legislation to promote product repairability and reduce the environmental impact of mass consumption. However, exactly what the right to repair entails, and for whom, is far from settled. The purpose of this paper is to increase understanding of what the right to repair is, and how stakeholder perspectives differ on this issue. By conducting a literature review, the paper examines the different aspects and perspectives of the right to repair, including the different “rights” granted stakeholders. The results of the literature review show that the right to repair is a complex concept that can entail the movement for right to repair, legislation to promote it, as well as many different rights, such as the right to access parts and repair information, repairable design, digital repair, information on product repairability and economic incentives to promote repair. Stakeholder perspectives on these rights also vary, with consumers, repairers and manufacturers holding different views on the subject. This paper highlights the importance and need to consider multiple aspects of the right to repair and the need for a collaborative approach among stakeholders and decision makers to balance the challenges and opportunities it presents.
