Sammanfattning: In the construction business machine control has been revolutionary for the production phase and it´s currently used exclusively in major construction projects. Vital for machine control is that the machine control models are accurate. Currently that responsibility usually lies with the contractors surveyors. The surveyors usually create their own machine control models based on the material delivered by the consultants. A streamline of the management of data with consultants delivering construction models fully adapted to machine control would among other implicate significant cost savings. The study is based on data management for machine control in road design. From the design done by consultants to the production done by contractors the entire process is described. The idea is to explore the possibilities to streamline delivery material and how it´s handled from consult to contractor by studying how the process looks today. The ultimate goal is to develop clearer guidelines for the supply of construction models adapted for machine control. The work has been followed up by initially gather information mainly from literature and previous studies with the meaning to get an own opinion on the current situation and its problems. The careful attention in this study is based on software usage and the interviews in which suitable persons with wide knowledge in the field of study participated. The conclusion is that the industry should strive for clearer standards regarding the supply material to machine control. Inter alia all machine control models should eventually have a maximum file size of 3 Mb. They should also be divided into sections where the length depends on the file size. It´s also important that they are split up in one production layer per file. More particularly finished road surface with slopes and terrace with slopes. Surface models should be delivered as dwg while line models should be delivered as LandXML 1.0. They should at least consist of solid 3D-lines and triangle models. Finally before delivery it´s very important that the delivery material is checked by examine the existence of double points, correct trench design and height differences primarily in connections like intersections and roundabouts. Although the participation in this study is delimited to the road structure the description above can be applied on other objects in the building models.
