Mäns våld mot kvinnor : En analys av fyra självbiografier om kvinnors uppbrottsprocess

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to explore and create an understanding of how four women in Sweden, through autobiographies, portray their experiences of leaving a violent male partner. The purpose is also to create an understanding of how these women relates to the violence that the men exposed them to during their respective relationships. Given the aim of the study, qualitative narrative analysis is applied. In order to develop a deeper understanding of women’s exit process, the following two theories are used in this study: Helen Ebaugh’s (1988) theory of The Role Exit Process and Eva Lundgrens (2004) theory of The Normalization Process of Violence. The result of the analysis shows that all four women experienced different phases throughout the exit-process. Initially in the relationship the women experienced love and romance in order to gradually begin to feel a general dissatisfaction. After a while, the men, according to the women, started to switch between love, violence and brainwashing. This meant that the tolerance and acceptance level of women was increased over time, since they adapt to the men’s demands and expectations. The result of the analysis shows a clear resemblance between the women’s experiences of exit-process and Ebaugh's (1988) theory about the Role Exit process. The result shows also a clear resemblance between these women's normalization of violence and Lundgrens (2004) theory of The Normalization Process of Violence.
