Sammanfattning: The infrastructure industry, the soil management in particular, has a significant impact on the climate. The great mass movement that occurs in an infrastructure project needs management and transport and in addition there is only a small percentage that is reused. A more circular approach has been suggested to be applied in the industry. A case study was performed of three infrastructure projects. Semi-structured interviews were performed with involved actors such as the consultant, the contractor and the client. A quantitative analysis has been performed on data regarding the quantity of soil. A qualitative analysis has been performed on the interviews and on more detailed data from one project. The movement of soil is complex and can be sorted into sub flows. The cooperation among actors in the industry is negatively affected by lack of coordination and uncertainties regarding the responsibility. Great ambition is needed from each actor to work sustainably. The use of terms and classifications in the industry is inattentive due to a lack of knowledge in the industry and needs to be changed, as it might cause confusion and misleading data. The law, especially regarding purpose and storage, needs to encourage sustainability, as it now rather amplifies the already problematic matter. Through early planning and type of contract, risks regarding soil management can be minimized and innovation increased. Even though the digital systems are in progress in the industry, there is a great demand for development, in particular for tracking soil, for the industry and to increase sustainability. The law and authorities need to encourage sustainability through requirements and incentives. Challenges in the projects make logistics and sustainability compete. Further research needs to be done regarding available statistics and follow-up of soil in the sub flows to gain a clearer picture of the soil management.
