1. If Trees Could Talk - Dendrochemistry, a Promising Method for Understanding Pollution History
Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : Heavy metal pollution presents a significant environmental challenge in the Anthropocene era, and understanding pollution history is crucial to address historical pollution and implementing effective mitigation measures. This study stands among a few comprehensive dendrochemical investigations that utilized an extensive dataset and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique to reconstruct the contamination history of As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn, with a focus on Cu. 2. Evaluation of River Restoration Measures: Interstitial Habitat Variables and Salmon Hatching Rates as Indicators of Success
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning; Uppsala universitet/LimnologiSammanfattning : River ecosystems are some of the most complex ecosystems on Earth, characterized by a highly heterogenous environment which is able to sustain a disproportionally high level of biodiversity in relation to the area of which they occupy. However, anthropogenic activities are encroaching on the highly diverse riverine landscape, threatening freshwater biodiversity. LÄS MER
3. ASSESSMENT OF WIND POWER PROJECTS: THE DEVELOPMENT OF A METHODOLOGY FOR EARLY-STAGE EVALUATION
Magister-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : There is limited land accessible for the construction of wind farms due to the obstacles posed by geographical constraints, popular opposition, wildlife conservation, and power system integration. These variables make the planning of wind power projects a complex procedure requiring the consideration of numerous criteria and limits. LÄS MER
4. A Place of Passage : Disturbed burials and dispersed human bone remains from the Mid-Neolithic burial ground at Ajvide on Gotland
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historiaSammanfattning : The Mid-Neolithic site of Ajvide on the Baltic Island of Gotland comprises the burials of 89 individuals within 85 separate burial contexts (Österholm 2008). Some of these individuals were detected with absent skeletal elements, such as the cranium, which have been believed to be represented by the considerable number of dispersed human bone fragments discovered from the site (Burenhult 2002: 33, see also Lundén 2012). 5. The effects of management practices and environmental variables on the biodiversity of Nardus grasslands in the national park Hohe Tauern, Austria
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of EcologySammanfattning : Introduction. A large part of the biodiversity of the Alps is linked to an interaction between the natural environment and traditional land-use practices. This study focuses on the priority habitat type of species rich Nardus grasslands (Natura 2000 Code 6230*), which is endangered, but continues to thrive in extensively managed subalpine pastures.
