    Sammanfattning : Surge-type glaciers exhibit a cyclic behaviour with an ice mass increase in the reservoir area during the inactive, quiescent phase and a rapid transportation of ice during the active, surge phase. In order to interpret the effects of climate change correctly it is important to distinguish between advances of surge-type glaciers and those of ‘normal’ glaciers, caused by climatic fluctuations.     Sammanfattning : In models of dust growth in protoplanetary discs focus is typically on coagulation, a mechanism which unfortunately seems incapable of forming particles larger than centimeters. The main reasons for this are that collisions between larger particles lead to bouncing or fragmentation rather than sticking, and that particles approaching meter-sizes drift radially inwards in the disc due to interaction with the surrounding gas.
