  1. 11. A catch-22 scenario in the Swedish food system : –A scientific examination of cyprinid fishingand its management possibilities in Sweden

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Författare :Peter Andreas Van Berlekom; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Cyprinids; Swedish food supply chain; fisheries management; Complex Adaptive System CAS ;

    Sammanfattning : Cyprinid fish like roach, bream and ide are natural resources in Sweden that were common and consumed in households up to the late 19th century. Due to societal changes during the industrialization cyprinids lost their domestic importance. Today we see an increasing demand for sustainable food sources. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Investigating the influence of the tidal regime on harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena distribution in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Duncan Jones; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Geography; Geographical Information Systems; GIS; Habitat Modelling; Harbour Porpoise; MaxEnt; Tidal Processes; Conservation; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Investigating the influence of the tidal regime on harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena distribution in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall Abstract Unintentional by-catch in fishing gear is a significant cause of mortality of harbour porpoises in UK waters. Understanding the spatial distribution of harbour porpoises at fine scales and how this changes over time is essential when trying to understand where these lethal interactions might occur. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Making nets more acoustically visible : Floats as passive mitigation measures to reduce bycatch of harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) in gillnets

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Författare :Frida Rosshagen; [2023]
    Nyckelord :toothed whales; harbour porpoise; Phocoena phocoena; incidental capture; bycatch; fisheries; fishing gear; ; gillnet; mitigation; reduction; low-cost; passive acoustic reflector; float;

    Sammanfattning : Incidental capture in fishing gear is today affecting at least 112 marine mammal species worldwide and for many smaller toothed whale species (Odontocete), gillnets are considered to be the largest problem. Although some effective mitigation measures exists, these are often context specific and many might be hard to implement due to reasons such as high costs and maintenance. LÄS MER

  4. 14. The Ecological and Anthropogenic Impacts of fishing gear in a tropical system : How the size of Spotted Rose Snapper (Lutjanus guttatus) and the ratio of target catch, is influenced by approved fishing gear within a marine area of responsible fishing in the South-Western Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica.

    Kandidat-uppsats, Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för biologi och miljö (BOM)

    Författare :Alfred Eriksson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Overfishing; overexploitation; Spotted Rose Snapper; Lutjanus guttatus; Gulf of Nicoya; Costa Rica; marine protected areas; artisinal fishermen; bycatch; Costa Rican Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture; incopesca; fishing gear; longlines;

    Sammanfattning : The oceans are essential for humanity, yet these systems continue to be degraded and suffer from pollution, habitat destruction and overexploitation. The Costa Rican Gulf of Nicoya is a productive gulf that is fished by both large-scale industrial fisheries and small-scale artisanal fishermen. LÄS MER

  5. 15. How using live bait affects longline bycatch in the artisanal fishing fleet of Costa Rica : The dilemma between live and dead bait

    Kandidat-uppsats, Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för biologi och miljö (BOM)

    Författare :Jonathan Baeck; [2023]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Long-lining is a frequently used method in marine fisheries. Similarly to trawling and nets, also long-lining is associated with bycatch which may have negative impacts on the ecosystems. However, different methods of long-lining may vary in the amount and ratio of bycatch but methods have rarely been compared directly. LÄS MER
