  1. 1. Monitoring marine alien and invasive species. A comparison between the traditional method (eRAS) and DNA-based identification of species.

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Författare :Josefin Holm; [2023-08-22]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : There is a major concern with the uncontrolled spreading of alien and invasive species, caused by an increase in travelling by boat globally. These are dispersed via ballast water, by fouling on ships and in fishing gear. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Investigating the influence of the tidal regime on harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena distribution in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Duncan Jones; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Geography; Geographical Information Systems; GIS; Habitat Modelling; Harbour Porpoise; MaxEnt; Tidal Processes; Conservation; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Investigating the influence of the tidal regime on harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena distribution in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall Abstract Unintentional by-catch in fishing gear is a significant cause of mortality of harbour porpoises in UK waters. Understanding the spatial distribution of harbour porpoises at fine scales and how this changes over time is essential when trying to understand where these lethal interactions might occur. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Making nets more acoustically visible : Floats as passive mitigation measures to reduce bycatch of harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) in gillnets

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Författare :Frida Rosshagen; [2023]
    Nyckelord :toothed whales; harbour porpoise; Phocoena phocoena; incidental capture; bycatch; fisheries; fishing gear; ; gillnet; mitigation; reduction; low-cost; passive acoustic reflector; float;

    Sammanfattning : Incidental capture in fishing gear is today affecting at least 112 marine mammal species worldwide and for many smaller toothed whale species (Odontocete), gillnets are considered to be the largest problem. Although some effective mitigation measures exists, these are often context specific and many might be hard to implement due to reasons such as high costs and maintenance. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pappersgarn, framtidens fiskenät?

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Författare :Linnea Alkin; Saga Ingerholt; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Fishing gear; sustainability; crayfish trap; micro plastics; degradability; paper yarn; product development; textile technology; ghost fishing.; Fiskeutrustning; hållbarhet; kräftmjärde; mikroplaster; nedbrytbarhet; pappersgarn; produktutveckling; textilteknik; spökfiske.;

    Sammanfattning : Textilindustrin är i behov av nya material som kräver mindre resurser än konventionellt använda material som exempelvis syntet- och bomull. Syntetiska material har en negativ påverkan på miljön, bland annat på grund av den mängd mikroplaster som släpps ut i naturen vid produktion och användning (Nagamine, Kobayashi, Kusumi & Wada 2022). 5. 5. The Ecological and Anthropogenic Impacts of fishing gear in a tropical system : How the size of Spotted Rose Snapper (Lutjanus guttatus) and the ratio of target catch, is influenced by approved fishing gear within a marine area of responsible fishing in the South-Western Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica.

    Kandidat-uppsats, Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för biologi och miljö (BOM)

    Författare :Alfred Eriksson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Overfishing; overexploitation; Spotted Rose Snapper; Lutjanus guttatus; Gulf of Nicoya; Costa Rica; marine protected areas; artisinal fishermen; bycatch; Costa Rican Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture; incopesca; fishing gear; longlines;

    Sammanfattning : The oceans are essential for humanity, yet these systems continue to be degraded and suffer from pollution, habitat destruction and overexploitation. The Costa Rican Gulf of Nicoya is a productive gulf that is fished by both large-scale industrial fisheries and small-scale artisanal fishermen. LÄS MER
