En intervjustudie om hemtjänstpersonals arbete hos äldre som har alkoholproblem

Detta är en M1-uppsats från Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för socialt arbete - Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to examine how elder homecare personnel work with elders who suffer alcohol addiction while focusing on the personnel’s experiences. The study is based on five semi-structured interviews done with five personnel who have experience in working with elders who have alcohol addiction issues. The study’s theoretical reference frame is Rosmari Eliassons theory of view of human being and the theory of norms presented by Bent Madsen. Our conclusion shows that elders’ alcohol drinking manner becomes a problem when this manner expands to be the central activity of an elder’s life. Our study shows furthermore that elder homecare personnel’s approach is characterized by a comprehensive view where they consider the elder both as a subject and an object. This means practically that the personnel often build their premises out of the client’s self-determination but in some cases they workaround it in order to fulfil their responsibility towards the elder. The important missing basis as experienced by the personnel is to dedicate time to the social intercourse in order to offer the clients good care.
