Sammanfattning: Hybrid workplaces are becoming increasingly common, integrating office-based work with remote work. Consequently, the objective of this report is to investigate hybrid workplaces within the finance industry, aiming to contribute insights into the experience of surveillance and control by employees and managers. The analysis of these experiences seeks to examine their impact on attitudes towards hybrid workplaces. From a management standpoint, this knowledge holds relevance due to its significance for leadership and organizational practices. The report employs a qualitative methodology, using semi-structured interviews to capture firsthand experiences, perceptions, and emotions surrounding the phenomenon. The study draws on Michel Foucault’s classic theory of power, which is further developed based on a more modern neoliberal perspective and the fear of exclusion. The findings reveal that digital surveillance and control manifest through the utilization of statistics, response rates, and availability. Within office settings, control and surveillance are primarily expressed through colleagues keeping an eye on each other in open office landscapes. The conclusions of the report are that both the experiences of surveillance and control, as well as attitudes towards hybrid workplaces, vary. Such variations are observed both across companies and among employees and managers, albeit a high degree of self-discipline has been identified.
