Sammanfattning: The main issue of this essay is preventive actions concerning public art. What is done nationally, and in the Region of Västra Götaland, Sweden. The essay is mainly an investigation of an art storage own by the region of Västra Götaland which is administrated and managed by the art unit in Vänersborg. Their main goal is to expose art to the public, in putting art into hospitals, schools etc. and in doing so educate and creating an atmosphere. The art storage is temporary and should be kept empty something that today is difficult. A new storage adapted to the art units special need is of interest. In the essay todays art storage is investigated along with rutines used by the administrators. Weaknesses and difficulties in keeping the collection preserved is pointed out. Conservation litterature is usually based on museum collections and therefore this has been used when investigating what can be done in the art storage in Vänersborg. Therefore, I present what changes is the ideal and what the art unit actually can do easily, with a normal budget and without so much effort. To do this a method of looking directly at the storage i Vänersborg was done, and also a field investigation where my interviewee where the head of the art unit. Litterature concerning preventive conservation and reports done by the government has been used. To see the buildings climate and response to outdoor temperature, digital hygrometers was placed inside the building. The result from the investigation was that the art storage need changes in the interior and structure in the rutines used by the art unit. They should also consider using climate control. When doing this changes it is a good idea to use litterature about preventive conservation and that can be done wether they want to do some small changes or a full interior and building renovation. What is to be considered should always be the goal with the collection which is to be used and exposed in the region.
