Sammanfattning: While meat is a great source of protein that brings satisfaction to people worldwide, it also presents a significant global challenge. Statistics have shown that men consume more meat than women, which can be understood through the performance of gender which occurs in our society. Women are more open to try plant based food in comparison to men. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between dietary intake, mainly focusing on meat consumption, and gender among individuals engaged in high-intensity training, in this case Crossfit. This has been done through a qualitative study, by interviewing eight people with equal division between men and women, who are regularly active in a Crossfit Gym located in Gothenburg. This to investigate their view on dietary intake, particularly meat and how they understand meat consumption in relation to their understanding of gender. The theoretical framework for this study is based on four theories: disciplinary power, habitus, masculinity theory and a feminist-vegetarian theory. The result showed that the interviewees had different thoughts and actions due to their understanding of meat consumption in connection to gender. Their thoughts were affected by social experiences, norms, the patriarchal society, social media and habits which in order were linked to habitus most of the time. Lastly, gender was not the main result in this study. Found data proved that exercise was an important reason for consuming meat. These results could be linked to research, as mentioned theories. In conclusion, the interviewees' understanding of the performance of gender and meat consumption were equal among men and women. Individual preferences and lifestyle were the main reasons for why they shared the opinion, although norms and social experiences influenced their dietary intake consciously and unconsciously.
