Sammanfattning: In this essay, I explore the concept the male gaze in a feminist theological perspective with a curtain focus on the body of women. The essay seek to answer the question how the female can be liberated from the male gaze and take control of her own body. The aim is to contribute to a body theology that encourages the woman's embodiment. The essay analyzes Lisa Isherwood's work The Fat Jesus: feminist explorations in boundaries and transgressions and Elisabeth Moltmann-Wendels I Am My Body: A Theology of Embodiment, based on subjects like the central concept the man gaze, gender hierarchy, desire and embodiment in the light of a Christian tradition. Isherwood understads that the woman is caught under a patriarchal look, which she designate as the the male gaze. She describes that women, in the Christian tradition as well as in the in secular society, live with unattainable demands on their appearance. Moltmann-Wendel contributes with a theological argument about the embodiment and its validity within theology. In the final discussion of the essay, are involving two feminist theorists: Judith Butler and Luce Irigaray. Together with them, the role of language for women's freedom is discussed and whether the question can be reversed. An important aspect addressed is the question of dualism.
