Sammanfattning: The financial crisis in 2008 shook the world and had multiple effects all over the globe, with the economy of multiple countries being negatively affected. In what way did this affect confidence in institutions through the people affected by the crisis? Many scholars have analyzed the effects of the financial crisis on voting in elections, trust toward government and political institutions. Drawing from the previous research and the scholars before me, I examine, and try to describe trends of trust in parliament during the crisis, depending on socioeconomic-, and market-development factors during the years 2004 – 2015, using European Social Survey data. My descriptive study shows that there seems to be negative trends in trust towards parliament during the financial crisis 2008. Further there seems to be significant differences in trends of trust in parliament between certain socioeconomic groups. However, the study does not show a pattern of significant differences between the groups in a national context, dependent on labor- or housing market development. With these results the study draws the conclusion that there is general link between the financial crisis and negative trends of trust in parliament. The study also draws the conclusion that there is a significant different between groups with different levels of education and different housing locations during the financial crisis 2007-2008, but not in specific national contexts. This adds an interesting description of the trends of trust in parliament in different socioeconomic groups over the financial crisis in a long-time perspective, to previous research.
