Parkering och centrumhandel - En studie om hur parkeringsreglering påverkar centrumhandeln i medelstora svenska städer

Sammanfattning: The building of more external shopping malls creates an increased competition for city centre business. The purpose of this study is to synoptically obtain the factors that affect the customer’s choice of trading site and its attractiveness according to previous studies. Furthermore, the purpose is specifically to study the effect of parking regulation on parking turnover and the effect on business turnover. The study focuses on medium-sized cities and presents case studies from Trelleborg and Ängelholm. This has been accomplished through literature studies, selections of cities based on statistics, interviews and a study on turnover in parking lots as well as a study on the turnover in the stores in the city centre. The main factors affecting the customer’s choice of trading site and its attractiveness are accessibility with different types of transports, wellbeing/atmosphere/experience and opening hours. The result is that time regulation on parking areas has a greater impact on turnover on parking spaces compared to fees. However, fees also have an effect. Totally, the turnover on parking areas are higher in Trelleborg compared to Ängelholm even though the turnover in stores in the city centre is higher in Ängelholm. This means that the turnover on parking lots and thus also the regulation has a minimal effect on how good the centre trade survives in these two cities. Probably it’s the same in cities with a similar size. However, in order to create a high turnover in parking areas meant for centre visitors it is recommended to have a low time regulation (for example ≤2 h) and a fee that is higher in the most central city areas compared to the areas which are located a bit further away. Parking lots meant for longer visits needs a higher time regulation and a higher fee compared to other parking lots.
