Sammanfattning: This essay examines especially Russia's role in the civil war in Syria that started on 15 March year 2011. My question is: What is Russia's role, in relation to other external actors in the international system, in the civil war in Syria that began in March 2011? External actors` political views, their cooperation with Russia and their interests in Syria have also been processed in this paper. My goal is also, besides Russias role in Syria, to examine Russia's relationship with other external actors that may have affected Russia's political behavior generally. The method I have used is secondary analysis. An open approach was used when I have practiced my textual analysis. This means that the investigation is controlled by the contents of the texts rather than my own thoughts. I have used all kinds of textual material that I think have been appropriate for my problem area. My secondary material consists of reports and scientific studies such as newspapers, articles, journals, reports, research organizations online and books. Russia has proven to have an economic role in Syria and a power- political role in the international system. Russia has an economic role because of the arms trade between Syria. Russia has a power-political role because it is for example most important to understand Russia's motives and goals in the Security Council, in a political cooperation for a resolution of the conflict in Syria.
