Samlingsförvaltning på svenska museum : en komparativ textanalys av policy- och styrdokument

Detta är en Master-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för ABM, digitala kulturer samt förlags- och bokmarknadskunskap

Sammanfattning: Collection management is an important part of the museum because they have to take care of their collections in order for them to be presentable for the public and preserved for the future. In Sweden all public museums must follow the museum law, which requires them to work with active collection management. In addition to the museum law, the museum’s also have steering documents from their mandators that affect the institutions. But the law and the documents don’t take the museum’s individual prerequisites into consideration. Therefore this master’s thesis focuses on how three Swedish museums work with collection management and how their surroundings affect the institutions. The museums are the National museum, Bohusläns museum and Ystads art museum. Through text- and comparative analysis of steering and policy documents, I have examined how the museum’s work with collection management. It’s also through institutional theory that I have examined how the selected museum’s framework and prerequisites, such as laws, rules and steering documents affect collection management. The results show that the three museums work in similar ways with collection management, and all follow the museum law’s requirement for active collection management. This indicates that there exists a norm in the Swedish museum landscape on how museum’s work with collection management and what areas are focused on. The differences are seen in the individually adapted content, which is affected by the prerequisites. For example economy, mandator and the areas that museums collect. The steering documents show that the National museum has different expectations from its mandators compared to the other two museums. The documents directed at the National museum are more specific and have a bigger focus on collection management. In contrast the steering documents aimed at Bohusläns museum and Ystads art museum doesn’t focus on collection management, but culture as a form of attractiveness for the region or the municipality.
