Sammanfattning: In this bachelor’s thesis, the participation of young people in the democracy of Blekinge, Sweden, is examined. The purpose is to map and analyze the ways in which young people participate, as well as to investigate the relationship between participation in democracy and underlying factors such as school level, gender, socioeconomic area, domestic/foreign-born status, parents' level of education, and disability. To capture all dimensions of participation in democracy, a framework that includes civil participation (social involvement and civic engagement), political participation (formal political participation and activism), and non-participation (active and passive) is used. The study is based on a quantitative survey in which 628 responses have been collected from high schools in Blekinge. The main conclusions suggest that young people in Blekinge are involved to varying degrees in different dimensions of democracy, and that young people's participation in democracy primarily takes place in areas outside the formal political sphere. However, the differences identified between different groups of young people should be taken seriously and actively equalized to create a fair and sustainable democracy.
