Sammanfattning: The conclusion in this study illustrates an understanding of the democracy in Colombia, a country that name itself as a functional democracy, when the reality through empirical results tells us something else. The purpose in this study is to problematize the phenomenon of democracy in Colombia. Colombia is situated in Latin America and is a country followed by war, conflict and uncertainty since 50 years. The base factor of the negative incidents during these 50 years is an internal conflict between the government in Colombia, and the Guerrilla movements named FARC. Through a problematizing, critical and open perspective this study aims to answer the question “to what extent can we understand the political system in Colombia as democratic?” The main discussion has a focus on the consequences of the negative incidents and what they do with the substance and meaning of democracy, and the development of the internal conflict in Colombia. How does the government act to determine the continuous conflict, and is it the right obligations? This study also portrays a possible dimension of democracy and its substantial values, and how to measure it in Colombia.
