Pojkars inställning till dans : En studie i Sverige och Sydafrika

Detta är en M1-uppsats från Estetisk-filosofiska fakulteten

Sammanfattning: This work has been to find out what attitude the boys have towards dancing. To gather material conducted interviews with four boys from Sweden and four boys from South Africa to examine the boy’s attitude towards dancing. I wanted answers if the gender, culture or generation has an effect on the boys' attitude to dance. Two interviews were made with a teacher in Sweden and one in South Africa, which had responsibility for dance lessons at the school. Through these interviews, I wanted to know how they are planning a dance lesson and what role dance have in school in these countries. Of the outcome, I can see a difference between boys' attitude to dance in Sweden and South Africa. Dancing in South Africa is in everyday life and is considered to be part of the culture. They are dancing at leisure and at school. Overall, it seems that the boys who where interviewed in South Africa thought that dancing was fun and something they did often. In Sweden, few of the boys are dancing. Dance, is as a hobby after school, an exercise. The boys who where interviewed in Sweden found that dance was more for girls, while boys in South Africa thought dancing was for all. The school conducted continuous dance lessons in South Africa and the students had theoretical and practical teaching of dance. In Sweden, includes dance instruction in physical education and health. The teacher that was interviewed in Sweden didn’t dance much with the students, perhaps some time per semester. Dances to learn in Sweden are mostly traditional couples dances while the South African students danced the traditional and modern dances from their own and others' cultures. The outcome of the interviews with the boys in Sweden and South Africa and the literature I conclude that boys and girls today are dancing individual and your own dance has become important in comparison with all couple dances in the past. Dance for the boys today is a way to find their identity and discover themselves.
