Sammanfattning: Since a large growth in population occurred during the 1800-1900 centuries in Sweden, an expansion of agricultural land became a necessity. The government provided farmers with an allowance to exploit wetlands. A large portion of wetlands has since then been lost and used for cultivation, in particular peat lands. The drainage of peat lands results in a loss in biodiversity, poorer water conditions as well as an increase in emissions of greenhouse gases. When in their natural state, peat lands can store and capture carbon from the atmosphere. By rewetting the previously drained peat lands, the ecosystem services would return. It is therefore of great value to explore the scope of rewetting, how it can be funded as well investigating the incitement from landowners for such a restoration project. To examine this, a literature review, a research of governmental fundings as well as interviews were conducted for landowners. As this research was made on behalf of Svalöv county, the aim was to find landowners situated in that county or in townships nearby. As Svalöv is situated in Scania, Sweden, the literature review of techniques for rewetting the previous wetlands aimed to seek literature based on similar landscape and previous agricultural use. The result of this study shows that the lack of financial fundings for landowners is the primary reason for restoration not being an attractive alternative for farmers. In particular for lands that does not have an active use. Landowners that have gone through with rewetting of wetlands have done this mainly based on other incentives. These incentives consist of a richer biodiversity, a more beautiful scenery and lower risks of flooding or fires. Svalöv county is recommended to provide more founding to the water councils and working communicatively with landowners about the financial fundings that exists, as these are not well known of. Results of this study provides a table of suitable fundings for rewetting as well as information of the scope of rewetting land, this could be used for a continued informative work.
