Sammanfattning: ABSTRACT  Background: Person- centrered care is something that is strived for in modern-day care. Lack of time in emergency care makes it difficult to use this type of care. The lack of time makes the patients wait which according to Eriksson can create a care suffering. Medical staff feels ashamed when the quality of care is not at a good level and when they can not handle the increased need of care from patients. Relatives also get affected by the stressful environment and the long wait. They experience a frightness and concern towards the patient when they feel forgotten by the medical staff and not knowing what the plan is for the patient’s care. Aim: The aim of this study is to map out patient experiences of waiting in emergency care.Method: The chosen method for this study is a general literature review based on eleven articles. Seven qualitative studies and four quantitative studies. Results: Three themes where identified based on the results, the importance of information and communication, consequences of long wait and the importance of a good treatment. Conclusions: Waiting in emergency care can cause care suffering for the patient. A mapping of the patient experiences can make it easier for care givers to prevent the type of suffering that arises. By giving a person- centered care and tailor a care that is customized for the unique human being aswell as identify the needs of the patient while they are waiting. Keywords: Emergency department, general literature review, experience, patient, wait
