Judisk stat eller israelisk nation? Om identitet i Israel.

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Mänskliga rättigheter; Lunds universitet/Centrum för teologi och religionsvetenskap

Sammanfattning: Israel is often referred to as a fragmented state, with the situation between Palestinians and Jews in mind. In Israel however, there are far more fragmentations – even among the Jewish populations. Ethnical differences between Ashkenazi and Mizrahi, religious differences between ultra-orthodox, orthodox and secular, and ideological differences within the Zionist-framework. There is, however, an Israeli identity that binds the citizens of the state together. An identity that is closely connected with the Jewish culture and the Jewish religion. The Jewish and Israeli identities have stayed strong for very long, this because of one thing: Zionism. The Zionists started preparing for the Jewish state as early as in the 1800s. With the identity research of Nationalism as a base, especially modernism and primordialism, this thesis investigates the meaning of the Jewish elements in the Israeli identity, among Jews in Israel and in the Diaspora. The conclusion is: There is conflict within the Jewish community both within and outside of Israel. Some say you can not be a Jew and at the same time criticize Israel, that makes you an anti-Zionist and a self-hater. Others say that the Zionist identity is the exact same thing as the Israeli nationalist one.
