  1. 11. Water quality in rivers affected by urbanization : a case study in Minas Gerais, Brazil

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Viktoria Björklund; [2015]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem analysis; statistics; water quality in rivers; urbanization in Brazil; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : This study highlights the key issues that urban river systems face due to urbanization. The city of Frutal (20°01' 32.17”S 48°56' 09.62” W) centered in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais is under urban expansion today. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Mainstream deammonification reac-tor at low DO values and employing granular biomass.

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Mark- och vattenteknik

    Författare :Marco Salmistraro; [2015]
    Nyckelord :ANAMMOX; Deammonification; Dissolved oxygen control; Granu-lar biomass; Mainstream municipal wastewater treatment; Partial nitrification;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrogen removal from wastewater has been exstensively addressed by scientific literature in recent years; one of the most widely implemented technologies consists of the combination of partial nitritation and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX). Compared to traditional nitrification and denitrification techniques such solution eliminates the requirement for an external carbon source and allows for a reduced production of excess sludge; furthermore, it brings down the costs associated to aeration by 60-90% and the emissions of CO2 by 90%. 3. 13. Using calcein-filled osmotic pumps to study the calcification response of benthic foraminifera to induced hypoxia under in situ conditions : an experimental approach

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Susanne Landgren; [2015]
    Nyckelord :benthic foraminifera; calcein; osmotic pump; hypoxia; Gullmar Fjord; bentiska foraminiferer; kalcein; osmotisk pump; syrebrist; Gullmarn; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Bentiska foraminiferer används i stor utsträckning för miljöövervakning, t ex i kontext med syrebrist i kustnära vatten, vilket är det snabbast växande och mest allvarliga hotet mot marina ekosystem. Ett flertal studier har visat att många foraminiferarter har förmåga till överlevnad, förökning och biomineralisering under förhållanden med syrebrist (hypoxi) och till och med under helt syrefria förhållanden (anoxi). Sammanfattning : Mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever and West Nile virus are serious problems in many parts of the world, especially in Africa, and partially in Ethiopia. Millions of people become infected and several hundred thousand people die worldwide from these diseases every year. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Habitat characterization for malaria vector mosquito larvae in Gamo Gofa, Ethiopia.

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Vilhelm Feltelius; Rasmus Elleby; [2014]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria is a widespread parasitic disease in developing countries of the tropics and subtropics, infecting approximately 200 million people and causing over half a million deaths every year. The disease is caused by the protozoan Plasmodium and is transferred to humans through infective bites from female mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles. LÄS MER
