  1. 1. Laboratory starlight simulator for future space-based heterodyne interferometry

    Master-uppsats, Luleå tekniska universitet/Rymdteknik

    Författare :William Karlsson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Angular resolution; Astronomy; Coherence length; Digital delay lines; Fiber optical circuit; Heterodyne interferometry; Interference; Laboratory starlight simulator; NIR light Near-Infrared ; Optical path differences; Space exploration; Starlight; Testbed environment;

    Sammanfattning : In astronomy, interferometry by ground-based telescopes offers the greatest angular resolution. However, the Earth´s atmosphere distorts the incident wavefront from a celestial object, leading to blurring and signal loss. It also restricts the transmission of specific wavelengths within the electromagnetic spectrum. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Focal Spot Optimization Using Spatial Light Modulation and a Phase Retrieval Algorithm

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Robert Petersen; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Spatial Light Modulation; Phase Retrieval Algorithm; Focal Spot Optimization; Adaptive Optics; Wavefront Sensing; Lasers; Physics and Astronomy; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Aberrations to the wavefront of a laser beam reduce the quality of the focal spot and are generally undesired. This project is aimed at determining the aberrations of laser beams by using a phase retrieval algorithm and to show that it is possible to correct the aberrations with a spatial light modulator to optimize the focal spot. 3. 3. Spectroscopic model characterisation of hot exoplanet atmospheres

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Elin Sandvik; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Transit method; Transmission spectroscopy; Exoplanets; Hot Jupiter; Modelling; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Hot Jupiters are gas giants under intense stellar radiation with short orbital periods of only a few days. Due to their large radii, hot temperatures, and large scale heights, hot Jupiters can be observationally characterised in detail through spectroscopy over an entire orbital phase. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Seeing Stars - Intensity Interferometry in the Laboratory and on the Ground

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Colin Carlile; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Stellar Physics Instrumentation Interferometry Cherenkov Telescope Array Intensity Interferometry; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Context Since the time of Tycho Brahe astronomy has been an observing science defined by the quality of its instrumentation. The introduction of primitive telescopes by Galileo in 1609 began a period of development of ever-larger telescopes with greater measuring precision. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Implementing an Algorithm for Spectrum Extraction of Circumstellar Objects with High-Dispersion Spectroscopy

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för astronomi

    Författare :Marcus Karlsson; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Astronomy; Spectroscopy; Exoplanets; Circumstellar Objects; Direct Imaging;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis project, we study the field of high-dispersion spectroscopy and methods for extracting the spectrum of circumstellar objects such as exoplanets from the combined signal of a stellar system. One of the only techniques for detecting absorption lines in exoplanetary atmospheres is to directly image a planet and record the reflected light. LÄS MER
