  1. 1. Bioeconomy Strategy effects in Rural Areas : A comparative study of the Alpine region and Inner Scandinavia

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Kulturgeografiska institutionen

    Författare :John Sudmeier; [2023]
    Nyckelord :bioeconomy; sustainability; agri-food; forestry; ecological farming; EU policy; heritage sensitive marketing;

    Sammanfattning : The European Commission Bioeconomy Strategy aims to stimulate an ecologically sustainable economy to mitigate climate change, declining biodiversity, and as an economic and social strategy meant to provide jobs and stimulate growth. The aim of this research project is to understand how the European Commission Bioeconomy Strategy is being interpreted and implemented in two different rural European regions, Inner Scandinavia, and the Alpine region, and based on those findings discuss how a sustainable bioeconomy strategy can be understood primarily in relation to the ecological sustainability goals of decarbonizing the economy and protecting biodiversity. 2. 2. Assessing the accuracy of a spatial model of habitat suitability for Calypso bulbosa

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)

    Författare :Michael Doorly; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Calypso bulbosa; norna; orchid; conservation; Sweden; alpine region; habitat suitability; distribution model; ecology; biodiversity;

    Sammanfattning : Calypso bulbosa is a rare and visually striking orchid that grows in older mesic to moist forests in the northern half of Sweden. C. bulbosa is red listed as a threatened species (Vulnerable, VU) with a reduction in numbers linked to modern forestry practices and exacerbated by the warming climate. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Changes in July albedo and its relationship with EVI over the last two decades in the Swedish alpine region

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Vera Grönvik Hende; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Shortwave albedo; Enhanced Vegetation Index EVI ; Alpine vegetation; Scandes; Surface albedo feedback; MODIS; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Vegetation in the subarctic is expected to respond to climate warming as its growth becomes less temperature limited. This has previously been recorded in the form of treeline advances and increasing shrub cover. Changes in vegetation cover may accelerate warming due to a decrease in summer albedo, in what is termed surface albedo feedback. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The effects of management practices and environmental variables on the biodiversity of Nardus grasslands in the national park Hohe Tauern, Austria

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Författare :Rebecca Paulina Dörner; [2023]
    Nyckelord :biodiversity; Nardus stricta; Nardus grassland; national park Hohe Tauern; East Tyrol; alpine pastures;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction. A large part of the biodiversity of the Alps is linked to an interaction between the natural environment and traditional land-use practices. This study focuses on the priority habitat type of species rich Nardus grasslands (Natura 2000 Code 6230*), which is endangered, but continues to thrive in extensively managed subalpine pastures. 5. 5. Forest, Tree, and Shrub limit responses to a century of climate change in Northern Norway

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Ella Björsbo; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Climate warming; growing season length; forest limit; tree limit; shrub limit;

    Sammanfattning : Climate changes have been observed in the Northern Hemisphere during the last century, causing a longer growing season and upslope expansion of forest, tree, and shrub limits. Here, a long-term historical perspective was used as a tool for investigating how climate change has impacted woody plants at the forest, tree, and shrub limits across the study region. LÄS MER
