This is partly because of environmental reasons but the primary matter is because these two areas have traditionally belonged to the indigenous Saami people where they are pursuing reindeer husbandry. But to what extent do these agreements present an honest attempt to equally share power and responsibility between Indigenous peoples and governance agencies in protected area management? By analysing all of the development stages, starting with the assessments in 2008 and ending with the Supreme Court judgement in 2021, the dialogue between the South Saami and the Norwegian state is scrutinised.
