  1. 1. The Heat reducing Effects of Reflective Clothing in Firefighting : A study on the efficiency of reflective textiles in personal protective equipment

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Författare :Albin Henning; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Firefighter; Reflective textiles; Radiant heat; Protective equipment;

    Sammanfattning : Modern firefighter protective equipment is excellent at protecting firefighters from surrounding heat, but how effective is at deflecting incoming radiant heat, and would the use of more reflective textiles, be able to further increase the equipment’s protective properties? This study aims to understand the different properties that reflective materials, compared to standard firefighter outer layers, have against radiative heat flux. The textiles of firefighter turnout gear and the reflective textiles used in the smelting industry have been examined when exposed to varying levels of radiant heat in a cone calorimeter. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Investigation on the gas-cooling effects of CAFS

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik; Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Riskhantering och Samhällssäkerhet

    Författare :Erik Lyckebäck; Jacob Öhrn; [2012]
    Nyckelord :CAFS; compressed air foam systems; extinguishing methods; full-scale experiments; gas-cooling; high pressure water mist; structural firefighting; tryckluftsgenererat skum; brandgaskylning; fullskaleförsök; förhöjt lågtryck; högtryckssystem; inomhusbränder; rökdykning; släckmetoder; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This report investigates the gas-cooling effects of compressed air foam (CAF). A literature review has been made on the subject and on related issues in order to gather information. Two experimental series were conducted, the first to evaluate the gas-cooling properties of CAF compared to water. LÄS MER
