Detta är en Magister-uppsats från Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan, GIH/Institutionen för rörelse, kultur och samhälle

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to examine if there were differences in experienced level of activity and meaningfulness when trying a minority-sport for students at an upper secondary school. The activities that the students performed were squash and badminton. The level of operating profit during the lesions were examined in order to see differences. The research questions were: - How do the students experience their level of activity and meaningfulness during a lecture in squash and badminton? - Is there a difference in operating profit and meaningfulness for the students when comparing squash and badminton? Method This study was performed in a semi qualitative manner, in the form of interviews, unstructured observations for 3 students and surveys where 15 students participated, where we used upper secondary school students. The students got to appreciate their differences in experienced level of activity, operating profit and meaningfulness. The main theoretical starting points of this study was phenomenology and physical literacy. Results All of the students reported increased physical activity and meaningfulness when playing squash compared to badminton. The participants also expressed that they would prefer to have a lesson series that consisted of squash rather than badminton. Conclusion The results presented in this study could be because that the students are trying out something that they have not tried before in terms of P.E and physical activity, hence connecting it to the theoretical theories of physical literacy and phenomenology where new challenges give the students a chance to show their problem solving abilities, focus and individual growth in the long term.
