Sammanfattning: In contrast with well-known traditional Closed Circuit Television cam-eras, nowadays most electronic devices including Internet Protocol surveil-lance cameras , Wireless Access Point, Network Routers, Voice over Internet Protocol technologies ,and so forth are all powered throughPower over Ethernet cables. These cables are capable of delivering bothDirect Current power and data simultaneously using a single main cable for the Local area network, this tremendously assisted system integra-tors and network installers to deploy electronic devices in locations that lack electrical circuitry and eventually eliminating the extra expensesof installing additional electrical wiring as well as power supplies.However, all Power over Ethernet cables are limited by several factors dividing them into multiple classes and types depending on their sup-ported modes, maximum operating current, input voltage range, power capacity, Power over Ethernet switch and more. A Power over Ethernet switch is a device that uses Power over Ether-net technology which functions as a type of Power Sourcing Equipment, that can provide power to a Powered Device over Ethernet cables toenable network communication. Some applications might require morepower than the power capacity of the available cable or the Power over Ethernet switch and eventually the demand for the power at the Pow-ered Device exceeds the supplied power by the cable. In this master thesis, an alternative solution was devised and a pro-totype was built which consists a smart energy storage device that charges up from the excess power when it is not consumed by the Pow-ered Device and then uses it to boost overall available power enabling the Powered Device to operate beyond the limitations of its Power overEthernet class without the need to upgrade to a higher Power overEthernet class.
