Sammanfattning: Aim This qualitative study will provide an insight to different teachers view on handball in two elementary schools. Handball is a competitive sport and has been played for over 100 years in different contexts in Sweden. Are there qualities in the sport that belongs in the school´s non-competitive education? How do they justify this sport according to the governing documents Lgr-11 that gives a lot of room for interpretation by the teachers? How do teachers justify handball based on the curriculum? What kind of qualities do the teachers highlight with this sport in the education? Do teachers perceive any differences with the new curriculum? Method The method has a qualitative approach. The interviews in this study had a semi structure character. The vision was to get a conversational character where attendant questions were improvised. The selection was five teachers who are teaching sports in two schools. The data processing was transcribed and interpreted through Pierre Bourdieus Sociologic theory. Results The results that emerged were that all the interviewed teachers have a positive attitude to handball and speak for its place in physical education. They justify handball based on the curriculum part of comprehensive motion abilities, physical activity, gross motor forms, and complex movements in games and sports. Beyond these physical qualities of the sport; the teachers also highlighted benefits such as cooperation, social and general educational knowledge. The teachers feel that the new curriculum has become clearer, but none of them have changed their way of working with handball and its elements.    Conclusion Due to the small size of this study, no general conclusion could be drawn about whether handball should be included in the physical education or not. The study reveals that cultural capital and habitus do have importance in the teachers view on handball. The curriculum leave room for interpretation and it is up to each teacher to decide whether they want to use the handball as a part of their teaching or not.
