Det svenska kulturkriget : mediedebattens problematiseringar och konstruktioner av gangsterrapen och dess subjekt

Sammanfattning: This thesis explores the discursive constructions of the contemporary Swedish media debate about gangsta rap, as expressed in three debate articles published in Dagens Nyheter, Aftonbladet and Expressen. The study draws upon the framework of audience theory, moral panic, power and representational practice theory and othering. Through a hybrid discourse analysis, the problem representations and the symbolic positions of the actors that the discourse takes as its subjects are uncovered. The analysis shows that the Swedish debate about gangsta rap is constituted by a complex landscape of differing views on accountability and agency, mirroring the material realities of Swedish society.
