Sammanfattning: Purpose – This study seeks to understand the viewpoint, held by employees, concerning their percieved organizational commitment in relation to their and the organizations use of internal information channels, with emphasis on the limited access to the corporate intranet. The research questions are: How do the employees use the corporate intranet? What other internal information channels do the employees and the organization use? How satisfied are the employees with the organizations use of the informations channels? How do the employees percieve their organizational commitment? Design/methodology – The research was designed as a case study using a qualitative data gathering method. Six semi structured interviews were conducted with blue collar workers that had been working within the organization between 4 to 31 years. Findings – Many of the blue collar workers have limited access to the corporate intranet and still percieve their organizational commitment as high. They believe that their high commitment is related to the gaining of information. Their high commitment might be understood via the use of high amount of other informational channels, especially verbal ones. In spite of the limited access, many of the workers visit the intranet almost on a daily basis. Many of the respondents believe that the information communicated via the intranet is not directed towards the blue collar workers but they still want the information. Orginality/value – Few research studies has focused on finding out what blue collar workers consider important in the internal communication process. This study contributes to the understanding of the blue collar workers viewpoint.
