En hållbar tillväxt av Umeå kommun : med avseende på bostadsmarknaden

Sammanfattning: A Sustainable growth of Umeå city : with regards to the housing market All municipalities in Sweden have their own planning sector and are in charge of controlling and deciding how they want to develop the city. A crucial part of the municipality planning is involving ecologic, social and economic sustainable components to it. In the best of both worlds, all of them would balance each other and a sustainable municipality would be reached. This is extremely hard to reach in real life though, the planners must take in accountability the guidelines from the laws and political documents that is above their own opinions. One common factor a lot of scientist and planners have in common when it comes to achieving a sustainable city is through urban densification. The aim of this study is to examine Umeå municipality’s vision of sustainable growth of the Umeå city in comparison to the housing supply and the current housing market. How Umeå municipality is working against segregation in their urban planning will also be examined. The study will be answered through literature studying of scientific articles, government- and Umeå municipality documents. Statistics from SCB, Boverket and Umeå municipality will complement the data and show patterns in the urban structure of Umeå, which some of it will be compared to statistics about Sweden in general. The study shows differences between some districts in the municipality regarding socioeconomic and sociodemographic factors. The statistic shows that Umeå municipality has some work to do when it comes to segregation and cramped accommodation. But their vision of the city in regards of sustainable growth is showing through the statistics, for example in which districts they are building the most to achieve an urban densification and the mixed supply of tenure. The result implies that Umeå municipality is working and doing a good job achieving a sustainable growth of the city and are at the same time aware of some problems they want and need to fix.
