Sammanfattning: Rebuilding the civil defence has become an important question in recent years. Being a key component, the tasks of fire service may need to be revised to correspond to the current threat. The fire service has an extended area of responsibility when there is a heightened state of alert, according to the Swedish Civil Protection Act. This extended area of responsibility comes with new tasks for the fire service to perform. This work aims to investigate if the tasks mentioned are in line with the current threat, as well as if the other tasks of the fire service have a connection to risk. This is done by conducting a literature study and an interview study. The ACU-framework provides a lens through which the results of the literature study could be analysed. The interview study provides information to fill in the blanks and double check the results from the literature study. The result shows that the extended area of responsibility does not have a clear connection to the current threat, but mainly provides the fire service with protection by international law. The other tasks that the fire service are supposed to fulfil relate to the goals of the municipal action plan, which also contains identified threats in the municipality, to keep citizens and properties safe from harm. It can therefore be concluded that, according to the law, there should be a link between these tasks and the current threat.
