Sammanfattning: In order to realize the purpose of the UN Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, the international community needs to incorporate gender awareness in their security context. The aim of this study has been to analyze the security strategies of EU and NATO from a realistic, liberal and feminist point of view in order to see whether they have fulfilled this mission. The analysis is constructed upon the dimensions 1) security from what? 2) safety for whom? 3) how will peace and security be created? Although the degree varies, the conclusion is that both EU and NATO are characterized by an idea of a common European community to be secured by a combination of military and liberal means. The ideas in Resolution 1325 are virtually absent and neither EU nor NATO seems to have understood its purpose of a gender perspective as a strategy to eliminate the occurrence of war and conflict.
