Frihet från reglering – En etnografisk studie om Free Party-rörelsens lockelser

Sammanfattning: Despite its association with violence, drugs and crime the Free Party-movement is increasing in popularity. The purpose of this essay is to examine what attracts women and men to these types of arrangements. Through ethnography and interviews this study examines the subculture of the Free Party-movement and its essence of freedom. This study presents how participants construct boundaries between mainstream and subculture and through this process create identity, meaning and rules. Free Party-movement is a post-modern subculture which means that the culture consists of participants who embrace a diverse identity and individuality. This study will attempt to prove that those individuals, who embrace this subculture, share common values and tastes which act as a cohesive force in building this boundary between their culture and that of the mainstream. This is exemplified by defining legal clubs as less cultivated, while increased value is placed on the subcultural which is portrayed as truly authentic through its separation from mainstream culture.
